Activity Theme: 2026 Exchange and Study Program of Matsuyama,Japan at University of Taipei

Activity Time: 2026.03.08 - 2026.03.12

Activity Introduction:

University of Taipei (UTaipei) welcomed a student delegation from Matsuyama City, Japan, from March 9 to March 11 for a three-day exchange program. The delegation was organized by the Matsuyama City Government and the Matsuyama International Association, led by Senior Staff Yuki Masaoka of Matsuyama City Hall and Ms. Keiko Yamamoto of the Matsuyama International Association and including five university students from Matsuyama. Through cultural activities and urban exploration, the program aimed to deepen youth exchange and mutual understanding between Taiwan and Japan.

During the welcome ceremony, President Yin-Hao Chiu noted that this marked the third consecutive year that student delegations from Matsuyama had visited UTaipei. He remarked that maintaining such exchanges over three years and building a stable and meaningful friendship is truly valuable. Taipei and Matsuyama have been friend cities for more than a decade. Although the two cities are located in different countries, both place great importance on cultural heritage, educational development, and urban innovation. President Chiu expressed that UTaipei is honored to serve as a bridge for academic and youth exchange between the two cities and looks forward to further strengthening this partnership in the future.

The exchange program featured a variety of cultural and experiential activities. At the Bo-ai Campus, students participated in a Chinese cultural workshop led by Professor Shu-Ping Chang from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and Professor Pei-Yu Li from the Master’s Program in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Students experienced traditional Lantern Festival lantern-making and calligraphy, gaining hands-on appreciation for Chinese cultural traditions.

At the Tian-mu Campus, the delegation took part in a karate experience class taught by Yu-Lin Ning, head coach of Taiwan’s national karate team. Through professional instruction and an energetic learning atmosphere, students were introduced to the spirit and techniques of karate and experienced Taiwan’s vibrant sports culture.
In addition to campus activities, the delegation visited well-known sites in Taipei and participated in various cultural and culinary experiences. Students learned to make pineapple cakes, a well-known Taiwanese pastry, gaining insight into local baking traditions. They also sampled Taiwanese cuisine and beverages, experiencing the diverse flavors of Taiwan’s food culture. During their visit, the Matsuyama students also conducted urban observations and field research on themes such as daily life, history and culture, and personal values, allowing them to deepen their understanding of Taiwanese society.

Combining cultural learning, sports exchange, and urban exploration, the program allowed the Matsuyama students to experience the rich and diverse cultural landscape of Taipei while building meaningful connections with students and faculty at UTaipei. The University will continue to promote student exchange and academic collaboration with Matsuyama City, ensuring that the friendship between the two cities continues to flourish among the younger generation and further energizing Taiwan–Japan exchange.
