Activity Theme: 2025 College of Charleston Summer Study Abroad in University of Taipei
Activity Time: 2025.06.09~06.17
Activity Introduction:
A delegation of faculty and students from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, USA, visited the University of Taipei on June 9 for a one-week study tour. The program was designed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of Taiwanese society, language, and industrial development through a diverse array of courses and cultural visits.
As part of their language learning experience, the students attended three practical Mandarin Chinese classes, focusing on daily conversational skills. These lessons were complemented by hands-on cultural activities such as Chinese calligraphy, crafting traditional Dragon Boat Festival sachets, and purchasing bubble tea. These activities allowed students to apply their language skills in real-life settings while gaining a deeper appreciation of Taiwan’s everyday culture.
The itinerary also included visits with rich educational and cultural value. Participants toured the National Palace Museum, where they viewed historical artifacts and learned about Taiwan's efforts in preserving and promoting Chinese cultural heritage. They also visited TSMC, a world leader in the semiconductor industry, to gain insights into Taiwan’s vital role in global high-tech innovation through presentations and guided tours.
To conclude the program, the group dined at Din Tai Fung, Taiwan’s world-renowned restaurant, where they enjoyed xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and a variety of traditional Taiwanese dishes — a flavorful finale to a meaningful cultural journey.
Through this enriching and diverse exchange experience, students from the College of Charleston not only enhanced their Mandarin language proficiency but also gained a profound appreciation for the richness and uniqueness of Taiwanese culture, laying a solid foundation for continued international collaboration between the two institutions.
